You are architects, landscapers, town planner, engineers, designers or just curious and very enthusiastic !

You would like to break your habits, discover a new culture, but also you are searching to be involved in the development of a community in order to improve its living conditions.

You want to apprehend the constructive reality of a building, to experiment, to build with your hands, to learn new construction techniques, and this in a real contexte!

 

If you recognize yourself in these few lines, then we need you! Helped by Nka Foundation, we offer you the unique experience of collaborating and building two classrooms for a vocational school of Arts and Crafts in Karsi Kunda Village, in Gambia !

 

The aim of workshop is to reassert to value of ancestral African constructive culture, especially construction techniques in raw earth. The construction will be carried out with the community's support, will employ local professionals helped by you, our international volunteers.

 

We would like to build an exchange network between you, us and the community which will welcome us, in order to share our knowledges, skills, but also our different cultures.

 

According to your participation date, you will be able to collaborate on different project stages: analysis and adaptation of the project to its local contexte, foundations, earth wall construction, framework, carpentry, finishing, furniture, landscaping, etc. The project must to be developed by adapting to the local needs of the community, but also by your ideas and specifics skills !

Students, Graduated, or Professionals looking for new cultural and building experiences.

When?

From August 06 to December 02, 2018.

You will participate for a minimum of two weeks.

 

Practical issues:

Donation: 350€ (100€ not-refundable deposit, required to reserve your spot)

Food and accommodation: 80€ per week.

​

This 350€ sum is a donation to build the project. It covers only the materials’ purchase, remuneration for the local workers and other costs at the construction site. 

The not-refundable deposit serves as your commitment to the project. The rest of donation will paid when you arrive at the workshop site, and could be a reduced amount depending on fundraising.

 

Help us to broadcast the project in order to reduce the volunteer’s contribution!

 

NB: Costs of airfare, visa and vaccination are not included, and shall be borne by each volunteer.
